Stuff we like

ALYT's Product endorsements (stuff we like):

These are things that we've talked about on the show, that we genuinely like and literally use (except where noted). We can unreservedly recommend this stuff to our friends and listeners. The links are affiliate/referral links, meaning that if you click them and buy something, ALYT receives a small percentage. We're not trying to monetize you, our treasured friends and listeners, but it might be nice if the show paid for itself. As usual, we're just "trying" something here. If you think it's sleazy or uncool, by all means let us know.

Coffee Paraphernalia, various:

Most of these were discussed in the coffee episode, wherein the boys talked way too much about coffee which is something they both feel strongly about.

  • Mr. Coffee Burr Grinder A burr grinder is absoluetely essential. Grind your beens right before you brew. (Matt)

  • Cuisinart burr grinder Reasonably priced adjustable burr grinder. (Jody)

  • The Aeropress Coffee maker Makes one 10oz cup of amazing coffee at a time, so it's perfect for an office solution (Jody)

  • Chemex 6-Cup Coffee maker Matt likes this one for making coffee after dinner, or for when he has a day off and is only brewing for himself. Pour 200*F water over some freshly ground Tonx, and watch it bloom! (Matt)

  • Tonx! This is where Matt and his partner get their beans. It's an awesome service that delivers two 12oz bags of just roasted coffee to your door each month (you can get less or more as needed). Not only is the product great, but the company is really cool, and they are helping small farmers all over the world. If you sign up using Matt's referal link, you'll get a $5 credit to start! (Matt)

Cooking and Food:

The food show (Episode 37) brought up a bunch of M & J's favorite kitchen tools and techniques. Here are a few favorites:

  • One Pan, Two Plates Matt and his wife have been slowly working their way through this book, and haven't had a bad recipie yet. It has lots of functional components for cooking for two, and wasting less food. (Matt)

  • Le Creuset 11 & 3/4" Signature Skillet Matt and his partner use this skillet for just about everything these days, from searing steaks (outside) to boiling pasta for carbonara. It's easy to clean too, compared to uncoated skillets. It's pricey, but worth it (Matt)

  • Jaccard Supertendermatic 16 Blade and Jaccard Supertendermatic 48 Blade Do your food-ethics demand grass-fed only beef, but you're tired of tough steaks? Hi. The Jaccard really works to improve the texture of tougher cuts (without changing the flavor at all). 48 blades means less passes, but is harder to clean (Matt has the 16) (Matt)

Jody's Internet plumbing picks

  • Linode, the At Least You're Trying website lives on a Linode server. In fact, the entire Good Times Radio Network cloud infrastrutcure is hosted with Linode. They do Linux virtual private servers. If you don't know what a virtual private server is, then consult a geek near you. You never know when you might need one.

  • Hover, need to register a domain name? Have a clever name for a website? Type it into the Hover search box and see if it's available. Hover isn't the cheapest option, but unlike the cheapest option Hover doesn't do sleazy ads or annoying upselling. Also, they don't kill elephants.
